Looking for a safer way to share YouTube video?

15 February 2011

Thanks to Helen for another excellent post on Merlin Sparks. If you are not lucky enough to be a  Merlin Mentor in Wiltshire and missed it, then this is what she said:

‘Teachers naturally have the safety of their pupils as a priority but are often frustrated by the limitations of internet filtering. Safeshare TV may offer a partial solution to this problem. Not only does SafeShare.TV remove distracting and offensive elements around YouTube videos, but it also allows you to crop videos before sharing them. Simply enter your YouTube video link and generate a safeshare link.’

Safer Internet Day – 8 February 2011

2 February 2011

The next annual Safer Internet Day will be on 8th February 2011. This is a European-wide event to help young people use technology and the internet safely. There are a number of excellent resources that are available to support the event which you may wish to use in your school:

Think You Know

The teacher’s area had a number of useful assembly resources, including short films and activities. Registration (free) is needed in order to access the teaching resources.

Childnet International

This site has a good range of teaching resources, plus a number of activities to support Safer Internet Day.

UK Safer Internet Centre

SWGfL in conjunction with Childnet International are jointly running the UK’s Safer Internet Centre. As part of their work they will be running an on-line radio station for Safer Internet Day, with the help of some of the leading figures in e-safety, such as Tanya Byron and Sonia Livingstone. Further details about the programme are posted on the web site and more Internet Safety resources are available here.
